The House of Representatives has just approved a bill which impedes health care insurance companies to condition or prevent patients’ hospitalization when a doctor has ordered one. The P. of S. 217, approved by the House of Representatives, pending before the Senate, prohibits the health care plans practice of requiring a pre-authorization in order to hospitalize a patient, if a doctor has ordered the hospitalization due to medical necessity. Said bill pursues the well-being of the patient, and prohibits the denial of referrals of medical evaluations by specialists and sub-specialists, if they issue from a medical order.
