As discussed a few days ago, a group of doctors and hospitals have publicly criticized the medical insurer called MMM or “Medicare y Mucho Más”. According to the Medical Surgeons Association, said medical insurance plan requires that hospitals have “hospitalists”, whose function is to determine if the patients’ medical condition merits hospitalization, regardless of the order of admission from their primary care physician. According to HIMA Hospital and the Medical Association, the MMM plan pays substantial economic bonuses to hospitals due to the savings obtained by not hospitalizing patients. Some hospital internists have rejected such initiative.
What this scheme omits is the patient’s best interest.
